Refashion: Denim Dress / Jeanskleid, verändert

When I bought this packaged denim dress in a discount supermarket, I thought what could go wrong: It would never be a beauty, but perhaps a good everyday basic.

Well, while trying it on at home, I saw that a lot was not working. It was too wide; had a drop waist, that didn’t make sense, and there was at least one upper button missing. While I thought about bringing it back to the store, I decided against and instead make something that I could like out of it.

Als ich dieses Kleid bei Aldi sah, dachte ich, was kann schon schief gehen: Es wird wahrscheinlich nie eine Schönheit werden, aber vielleicht ein gutes Alltagskleid.

Nun, als ich es dann zu Hause anprobierte, sah ich, daß so einiges nicht funktionierte: Es war zu weit, hatte eine tiefe Taille, die zusammen mit dem Gürtel gar keinen Sinn ergab und der Ausschnitt war zu tief. Ich dachte darüber nach, daß Kleid schnell zurück zu bringen - entschied mich aber dagegen und ging an die Arbeit.

First I cut of the waist, which gave me one extra button. Then I reduced the width of the arms.

To make it look a bit more interesting, I sewed on a colorful rick rack border and embroidered a sashiko pattern. I printed the pattern and draw it onto the dress using a laundry marker.

Usually sashiko stitching is indigo/white, but I wanted to re-use the colors of the rick rack border.

The final result certainly looks closer to what I had in mind while buying the dress :)

Zuerst musste ich die Taille verkürzen, dadurch gewann ich einen Knopf mehr für den Ausschnitt. Danach nähte ich die Ärmel etwas enger (ich denke noch darüber nach, sie komplett zu entfernen.) Um das Kleid etwas interessanter aussehen zu lassen, nähte ich eine bunte Zackenlitze an und stickte ein Sashiko Muster auf den Rockteil. Das Muster hatte ich am Computer ausgedruckt und mit einem Wäschestift aufgemalt.

Normalerweise ist Sashiko nur Indigo / Weiß, aber ich wollte die Farben der Zackenlitze wiederverwenden.

Das Resultat sieht jedenfalls schon eher wie das aus, was ich mir am Anfang vorgestellt hatte :)
