Happy Easter / Frohe Ostern

We didn’t have a lot of time to prepare or celebrate Easter, but we tried our best. 

I dyed the hardboiled breakfast eggs with turmeric and coffee, which made both versions look kind of brownish, but at least they had some color ^^

Wir hatten nicht soviel Zeit um für das Osterfest zu dekorieren - oder zu feiern (denn ich war schwer beschäftigt mit der Deko für einen großen Kindergeburtstag) ... aber wir versuchten es zumindest.
Ich färbte unsere hartgekochten Frühstückseier mit Kurkuma und Kaffee, was jeweils ein leichtes Braun ergab statt dunkelbraun und gelb und damit alle Eier gleich aussehen ließ... aber egal, der Gedanke zählt ^^ 

And we decorated two vases full of twigs with the eggs that I painted in previous years (here and here).
After all it is our last Easter in Vermont and I won’t be able to take the fragile painted eggs (they will move in with my neighbor) with me.
I wanted to use the sunshine of Easter Sunday, so I moved my twigs outside for natural light Easter egg shots.

Ich schnitt Zweige von den Bäumen um zwei Vasen damit aufzufüllen und schmückte sie mit den echten Eier und Holzeiern, die ich in den vergangenen Jahren bemalt habe (hier und hier). 
Das ist unser letztes Osterfest in Vermont und zumindest die echten Eier werde ich nicht mitnehmen, da sie einen Umzug nicht überstehen würden. 
Ich nutzte das Sonnenlicht des Ostersonntags, um meine Zweigvasen auf den Treppen vor dem Haus zu fotografieren.

Weiter geht es mit meinem Hausbericht. 

The Kitchen

Meet my current work place, as the kitchen table is mostly filled with colors, brushes, metal threads, yarn etc. … The kitchen is a small room, which featured a dark green color when we moved in. This color was just too overwhelming for the little, nearly lightless space and so I repainted everything in crisp white. Since then I’m thinking of a light buttery yellow on the walls, but getting rid of the green was such a huge trouble, that I m not exactly anticipating any further paint jobs.

The pictures and the small kitchen temple on the wall are slightly too compact and therefore looking overcrowded, but they double as a great inspirational wall, so that I still couldn’t bring myself to change anything of it.

Die Küche

Das ist mein derzeitiger Arbeitsplatz, auf dem der Küchentisch meist mit Farben, Pinseln, Draht, Garnen usw. zugestellt ist.... Die Küche ist ein recht kleiner Raum, der in einem schmutzigen Olivegrün gestrichen war als wir einzogen. Die Farbe war zu viel für den kleinen, nahezu fensterlosen Raum und so überstrich ich alles in Reinweiß. Seitdem denke ich über einen warmen, butterigen Gelbton nach, aber da es soviel Arbeit machte das Grün loszuwerden, freue ich mich nicht gerade über neue Streicharbeiten.

Alle Bilder und der kleine Küchenaltar sehen ein wenig überfüllt aus, wie sie so an der einen Wand hängen, aber da sie als „große“ Inspirationsquelle dienen, konnte ich mich bisher nicht dazu überwinden etwas zu verändern.

Our small hall showcases the only dark wood frames in the house and a small warli style, African dancer, which I repainted in that “fusion” way.

Unser kleiner Flur zeigt die einzigen Bilderrahmen aus dunklem Holz in der Wohung, sowie einen hölzernen Tänzer. Ich habe die afrikanisch-inspirierte Figur im Sperrmüll gefunden und als Warli Tänzer bemalt.

The bedroom

This room also features the same colors like in Ottawa in red, white and blue. Just the sweet pastel blues are gone and got replaced by black as a strong accent color which seems to ground and pull together the whole look. Otherwise the typical features despite bed, drawer and closet are lots and lots of pictures on the walls, probably too many and a nice reading spot on the window, which is mostly occupied by the small cat.

Das Schlafzimmer

Dieser Raum hat wie auch das Wohnzimmer das vorherrschende Farbschema aus Ottawa übernommen, in diesem Fall rot, weiß und blau. Verschwunden ist jedoch das Hellblau aus Ottawa, welches durch Schwarz als sehr starke (sparsam verwendete) Akzentfarbe ersetzt wurde. Ansonsten befinden sich außer Bett, Kommode und Schrank viele, viele Bilder an den Wänden, wahrscheinlich zu viele und eine kleine Leseecke zwischen den Fenstern, die meistens von der kleinen Katze besetzt wird.

That’s it; we don’t have more rooms to show… It is a smaller space than we had in Ottawa, but how much space do two people and two cats really need? Maybe it helps us, to focus on the important things that we don’t have to give/ throw/ sell away so many things like we had to do in Ottawa, when we will leave Vermont in probably two years… :)

Das ist das Ende unserer kleinen Haustour… Es ist eine kleinere Fläche als wir in Ottawa zur Verfügung hatten, aber wieviel Platz brauchen zwei Leute und zwei Katzen überhaupt? Vielleicht hilft uns der geringere Platz sich auf die wichtigen Dinge zu konzentrieren, so daß wir nicht soviel weggeben -werfen -verkaufen müssen, als das in Ottawa der Fall war ... :)

Treasure chest / Schatztruhe

This is a small fun project if you want to upgrade a nice box into something special. We got this box as a Christmas present. A friend brought it from Poland, although the manufacturing place is probably to be found either in India or China. I liked the box from outside, but inside it was only the raw wood. So I upholstered it with a shining green satin fabric, which I glued over pieces of cardboard and a soft fabric and painted the inner part of the lid in a dramatic burgundy-red. Do you remember my small Warli-sketch? Now I was using it and painted a couple of Warli-Figures into the lid, additional to a very curly tree. Et voilà, my treasure chest was ready to be used, because now it looked from inside as shining and finished as from the outside…

Dies ist ein kleines Projekt, um eine schöne Holzschachtel aufzuwerten. Wir bekamen die Schachtel als Weihnachtsgeschenk. Eine Freundin brachte diese aus Polen nach Kanada, auch wenn der Herstellungsort vermutlich eher in Indien oder China gefunden werden kann. Ich mochte die Box von außen, aber innen war nur das unbehandelte rauhe Holz. Also polsterte ich die Schachtel mit einem glänzenden grünen Satinrest aus, den ich über passende Kartonstreifen und einem weichen Unterstoff klebte und bemalte die Innenseite des Deckels in einem dramatischen Burgunderrot. Erinnert ihr euch an meine kleine Warli-Zeichnung? Nun konnte ich diese nutzen und malte eine Reihe an Warli Figuren in den Deckel und fügte außerdem einen sehr gekringelten Baum hinzu. Et voilà, meine neue kleine Schatztruhe war bereit in Gebrauch genommen zu werden, denn nun sah sie von innen genauso glänzend und vollendet aus, wie von außen ....

Small Projects / Kleine Projekte

This week I did so far:

(1) Arranged all my nature finds loosely on a plate in the living room,

(2) Made the Bengali Bride – who is wearing my bridal jewelery - looking even more Bengali,

(3) Tried my very first Warli Sketch for an upcoming project, where I want to paint Warli figures in a small treasure chest

(4) And I stained the wood of a former fruit crate, upholstered it a bit with a small rest of a green cloth and now it provides a simple storage solution for the ever growing collection of cat toys in this house….

Diese Woche habe ich bisher,

(1) Alle meine Fundstücke aus der Natur lose auf einer Platte im Wohnzimmer arrangiert,

(2) Die Bengali Braut – die meinen Brautschmuck ausstellt – ein bißchen mehr Bengali aussehen lassen,

(3) Ich versuchte mich an meiner ersten Warli- Zeichung. In einem zukünftigen Projekt werde ich Warli-Figuren in eine kleine Schatztruhe malen.

(4) Und, ich habe eine Mandarinen-Box aus Spannholz dunkel eingefärbt, mit einem kleinen Rest grünem Stoff ausgepolstert und so eine einfache Aufbewahrungsmöglichkeit für die wachsende Sammlung an Katzenspielzeug geschaffen...

When I was in India, I sometimes saw Warli-pictures on walls and in Galleries and I really liked how the tribal art even developed further, so that there are warli figures available driving in Rikshaws or sitting on the desk with a pc. In Canada I found these ancient pictures from native americans in the museum painted on Buffalo leather, which really reminded me of Warli-Art.
