Every summer I fall for sailor inspired outfits all over again… Link.

Usually I would choose the classic combination with red, but this year I replaced it with rather natural materials like leather, straw and natural fibers to go with all these blue and white stripes :)

Normalerweise würde ich die klassische Kombination mit Rot wählen, doch in diesem Jahr habe ich das mit eher natürlichen Farben wie Leder, Stroh und sonstigen Naturfasern ersetzt :)

Home Inspiration

My time on the island is slowly coming to an end and I started thinking of how to fill our new space. I played with various items from the polyvore home program and ended up with rather monochrome inspiration boards… lots of white and natural elements, plus colors that seem to be inspired by the sea. 

I guess my style is still heavily influenced by my current location. 

Meine Zeit auf der Insel neigt sich langsam ihrem Ende entgegen und ich beginne darüber nachzudenken, wie meine neue Wohnung aussehen soll. Dazu spielte ich mit dem Polyvore Programm um mir mögliche Räume auszudenken und kam bei meiner Produktauswahl zu überraschend einfarbigen Resultaten. 

Natürlich gehöre ich dank unserer zwei Angorakatzen immer zu den wenigen Menschen, bei denen eine weiße Couch tatsächlich praktisch ist, doch hat bisher der indische Einfluss auch immer viel Farbe dazu gemischt. Aber derzeit gefallen mir außer Weiß und natürlichen Holztönen, nur noch gedämpfte Farben, die allesamt vom Meer inspiriert zu sein scheinen. Offenbar hat meine derzeitige Insellage noch einen großen Einfluss auf meinen Stil.

Polyvore Set: Link.

Thanks to ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ the Drop Waist Dress celebrated a micro comeback during summer (just like the peplum in 2012) - and when the recent fashion shows for S/S’14 are giving any clue in that matter, than the trend is even going stronger in 2014. 

So what can we do in the colder months in between? The answer is to layer up with tights, leggings, cardigans and boots … and be happy, because your dress is going to be fashionable for at least two more seasons :)

Dress / Kleid: Anthropologie

Tights / Strumpfhosen: Charlotte Russe 

Scarf / Schal: Saraz

Dank Filmen wie ‚Der große Gatsby‘ und Fernsehshows wie z.B. ‚Downton Abbey‘ feierte die Mode der 1920er Jahre ein kleines Comeback in diesem Sommer (so wie das Schößchen im Sommer 2012 wieder getragen wurde) - und wenn man sich die Frühling / Sommer - Kollektionen für 2014 ansieht, dann wird sich dieser Trend wohl fortsetzen. 

Doch kann man die Kleider mit der charakteristischen tiefen Taille auch in Herbst und Winter tragen? - Aber ja :) mit Leggings, Strumpfhosen und Stiefeln werden sie Herbst- und mit Jeans sogar Wintertauglich. Und dann kann man sich auch einfach darüber freuen, daß das Kleid noch mindestens ein Jahr lang modisch sein wird :)

For this set I randomly choose items, that other people clipped into their polyvore boards and I just love everything: the chevron dress, the coat, the bird sweater - oh yes - I guess I’m addicted :) (Link)

Ich habe noch keine Kollektion von Designer Lauren Moffat gesehen, in der mir nicht fast alles sehr gut gefiel... Für dieses Set hier, habe ich eher zufällig Kleidung ausgewählt, die andere Leute in ihren virtuellen Polyvore Ordnern gesammelt haben und es ist alles so schön: das Kleid mit Zickzack Muster, die Jacke mit Folklore-Details, der Pullover mit aufgestickten Vögeln... super :) Nur an den Preisen müsste man noch arbeiten ^^ (Link)

Christmas Sweaters / Weihnachtspullover

Now is the time for Christmas parties with all these chic cocktail dresses and sequin clutches - just like every year - they are lovely, but after a while it gets a bit boring. 

Therefore try to rock your Christmas party with an ugly sweater instead and stay warm + happy :) Link. 

Jetzt ist die Zeit für Weihnachtsfeiern und in diesem Jahr sollte man dazu einen häßlichen Pullover tragen... und das mit Stolz ^^, denn der hält warm und macht glücklich ;) Link.

When I go into the stores it seems like all autumn colors are brown, mustard or grey… but I’m still stuck with the preppy combination of navy and burgundy. 

So here are my two sets in comparison:

Wenn ich mich in den Läden umsehe, scheint es also ob alle diesjährigen Herbstfarben entweder braun, senfgelb oder grau sind... doch mir geht die Farbkombination dunkelrot und dunkelblau einfach nicht aus dem Kopf... daher sind meine Polyvore Sets der Woche diesen Farben gewidmet.

I didn’t make any set at polyvore for a long time, but I was in the mood today, for a wild mix of pattern, styles and warm fall colors :) Link. 

Ich habe schon seit langem kein Set in polyvore mehr gestaltet, doch heute hatte ich Lust auf einen wilden Mix mit jeder Menge Muster, Formen und warmen Herbstfarben :) Link.

Friday Polyvore: Peplum / Schößchen

One other hot trend of this spring is the return of the “peplum” - an extra skirted part, added to blouses, over skirts and dresses - last seen in 1980s soap operas. 

Already in the last year the first peplum dresses started reappearing at BB Dakota for example and this year the trend became mainstream. Even the DIY community is working on it, showing how to make detachable peplums (here) and a peplum skirt out of a maxi fishtail skirt (here). 

Ein anderer großer Trend des Frühjahrs ist die Rückkehr des “Peplum” - einem kurzen Überrock, der an Blusen und Jacken auftacht, sowie über Röcken und Kleidern. Zuletzt konnte man diese Art auffälliges Schößchen mit lila Blumenmuster und güldenem Gürtel in 1980er Seifenopern bestaunen. 

Bereits im letzten Jahr tauchten Peplum Kleider vereinzelt in den Kollektionen auf, wie z.B. bei BB Dakota, ab diesem Jahr sieht man sie überall. Selbst die DIY Gemeinschaft arbeitet bereits an ihren Kreationen, es wird gezeigt, wie man vom Rock abnehmbare Schößchen näht (Link.) oder wie man einen einfachen Peplum aus einem Fishtail Rock näht. In case you are not quite ready for a full dress, try a shirt with a peplum part and wear it with jeans :) 

Wenn ihr euch noch nicht direkt an ein Peplum Kleid herantraut, ein T-Shirt mit Schößchen kann man auch gut zur Jeans tragen :)

This week I didn’t really felt like making low / high sets, so instead I created two mood boards. One is for Mexico, the other for Hawaii… both known for colorful outfits and as tourist destinations. 

In dieser Woche hatte ich eigentlich keine Lust neue niedriger / hoher Preis Mode-Sets zu gestalten und so bastelte ich stattdessen an zwei Land (bzw. Insel) & Mode Kollagen. Eines für Mexiko und das zweite ist für Hawaii. Beide Gebiete sind bekannt für ihre farbenfrohe Kleidung und als Reiseziel.

This week I want to show summer variations of tribal prints. 

In dieser Woche möchte ich Sommer Outfits im Ethnolook vorstellen.

When you want to go seriously wild with the pattern mix, then you could mismatch a tribal pattern with another tribal pattern or f.e. with stripes. Mixing it with solids like red and white, would be a rather relaxing variation.

Wenn man sich traut die Muster wild durcheinander zu mischen, dann kann man zu Ethnomustern noch mehr Ethnomuster tragen oder z.B. auch Streifen. Wenn man es stattdessen etwas harmonischer mag, dann wären Unifarben und weiß eine gute Variante (fehlt nur noch der Strand, die Hängematte und ein Buch^^).

In case you are not so sure about the whole tribal thing, than start slow f.e. with Accessories. That’s at least what I did… buying matching shoes and a belt (and even a little blanket). 

Wenn man sich nicht sicher ist, ob man soviele Muster und Farben überhaupt tragen möchte, dann kann man auch ganz langsam beginnen... z.B. mit passenden Accessoires. Das habe ich zumindest gemacht und mir passende Schuhe, Gürtel (und ein rotes Tuch^^) gekauft.

In this spring fashion the pastel ice cream colors made a big comeback with buttery yellow, soft pink, light orange, mint and pale blue… the perfect girlie contrast to last years flashy neon trend. 

Die Frühjahrsmode des Jahres zeigt einmal mehr Eiscreme-Farben in sämtlichen Pastelltönen von Vanillegelb, Rosa, Orange, Mint und Hellblau... ein sehr mädchenhafter Kontrast zu den „schreienden“ Neonfarben des letzten Jahres.

Friday Polyvore: St. Patrick’s Day

Since tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day I couldn’t resist creating a little green dress up set with polyvore. But instead of paring it with white and orange, I choose white and black instead… dragging it slightly into an art deco direction :)
 .

In former times the people were envious about the Irish, since they were allowed to stop fasting (in Lenten) on the birthday of their national saint to eat and drink whatever they wished for. Nowadays it might only be the drinking day, but once in a year the Irish Pub, Glass of Guinness and Irish drinking songs sound like the perfect idea to go green :)

Da morgen der St. Patricks Day begannen wird, konnte ich einem grünen Set auf Polyvore nicht widerstehen. Doch anstatt Grün mit Weiß und Orange zu kombinieren, suchte ich stattdessen nach Weiß-Schwarzen Stücken um das Ganze etwas klassischer aussehen zu lassen :) 

In früheren Zeiten waren die anderen Leute neidisch auf die Iren, da sie am Geburtstag ihres Nationalheiligen die Fastenzeit (die bis Ostern dauerte) unterbrechen durften um einen Tag lang zu essen und zu trinken was sie wollten. Heutzutage ist es zwar ein reiner Trinktag geworden, doch einmal im Jahr ein Irish Pub zu besuchen, das Glass Guinness zu bestellen und irischen Liedern zuzuhören, klingt nach dem perfekten Grund zum grünen Outfit :)

Friday Polyvore - Chevron

I continued my polyvore sets with stripes: But these ones are slightly different. Chevron patterned fabrics are abstract, tribal, a classic and … in trend :) 

Auch in dieser Woche gibt es hier gestreifte Sets zu sehen: Doch diese sind ein wenig anders. Das Chevron Muster (Zickzack: in V-Form bzw. umgedrehter V-Form) ist höchst abstrakt, alt, klassisch und ... im Trend :)

Nothing says summer more than fresh stripes in white and solid colors… predominantly in red and blue for the quintessential sailor style :) 

Nichts sagt mehr über den Sommer aus, als frische Streifen in weiß und unifarben, insbesondere in rot und blau für den maritimen Klassiker :)

This week’s set is showcasing horse print clothing and accessories.

Seeing a recent increase in horse prints, I thought there might be a wide variety available, but I found most products in the $30 till $100 range. So this is a rather inexpensive (and probably really girlie) trend, but I liked the combination of the mustard yellow sweater with the black horse print in the ‘Low’ Set so much, that I got inspired to make this post.

In dieser Woche zeige ich Sets mit Pferdemuster Aufdrucken.
Seit ich vor kurzem eine stete Zunahme an Pferdemotiven in Kleidung und Accessoires feststellte, dachte ich, daß es dazu genügend große Variationen in Preis und Leistung - ausreichend für high und low sets - geben könnte. Aber ich fand die meisten Produkte nur im $30 bis $100 Bereich angesiedelt. Insofern handelt es sich um einen preiswerten (und wohl sehr mädchenhaften Trend). Ich mochte am Liebsten den senfgelben Pullover mit schwarzem Pferdemuster im ‚Low’ set, welcher mich zu diesem Thema inspirierte.
