Seven Sunday-Things / Sieben-Sachen Sonntag

Following the idea of “Frau Liebe” (a german “handmade” blog) I want to show on every Sunday (or sometimes on a Monday), seven things which I used - with my hands - during the day. 

Nach einer Idee von "Frau Liebe", gibt es an dieser Stelle immer wieder Sonntags (oder auch erst am Montag) Bilder von sieben Sachen, für die ich heute meine Hände gebraucht habe. 

It was a cold day, so that we just went out for the short necessities and otherwise stayed at home. I was sewing a lot - wishing I could sometimes rent a sewing machine - drank tea and we had good food.

Es war ein kalter Tag, deswegen verließen wir das Haus nur für kurze Momente (Straßenkater füttern) und blieben ansonsten drinnen. Ich nähte ziemlich viel - manchmal wünschte ich mir, ich könnte mir eine Nähmaschine ausleihen - drank Unmengen an Tee und wir hatten zuviel gutes Essen. 

1. In the morning I replaced the buttons from my jeans dress. The old buttons were nice, but unpractical. They would stand out, when I would wear a sweater above and also open up very easily. The new buttons are flat, more (I added two buttons for the real button-up look) and a pop of color. 

Am frühen Morgen entfernte ich die Knöpfe von meinem Jeanskleid. Ich mochte die alten Kugel-Knöpfe, aber sie waren unpraktisch. Wenn man einen Pullover darüber trug, standen sie heraus und sie würden sich häufig von selbst öffnen. Die neuen Knöpfe sind flach, mehr (ich nähte zwei Knöpfe zusätzlich am Kragen und darunter an) und sie sind gelb! :) 

2. This week, my husband made another staple of the Indian breakfast culture: Upma. It is similar to Poha, but made with semolina. 

In dieser Woche bereitete mein Mann einmal mehr das Sonntagsfrühstück vor: Es gab Upma, ein typisches südindisches Frühstück. Es wird wie Poha zubereitet, aber mit Gries statt Reisflocken. 

3. The next sewing project: When I got this second hand L.L.Bean dress, someone already had shortened it before me, but due to my own shortness, this wasn’t enough. Nevertheless I was wearing it as a too long dress for one year, simply because the cloth is so nice and warm in winter. But now I decided to go for the cut and made a belt out of the remnant. 

Mein nächstes Nähprojekt des Tages: Als ich dieses gebrauchte L.L.Bean Kleid bekam, hatte jemand vor mir bereits den Saum gekürzt. Da ich jedoch nicht die Größte bin, war das immer noch zu lang, also kürzte ich jetzt erneut 10 cm mehr ein und aus dem Rest entstand ein Gürtel. 

3a. While sewing, I got distracted and painted “Needle” on my needle box :)) 

Beim Nähen wurde ich abgelenkt und ‚musste’ „Nadel“ auf mein Nadelkästchen schreiben :) 

4. Our lunch: Lentils with Rice. 

Zum Mittag gab es Linsen mit Reis. 

5. The house project came to a near stand still. Whenever I take it out, the cats run super excited to me and look for the game. That’s nice somehow, but is surely slowing down the progress. 

Mein Hausprojekt kam in dieser Woche fast zum Stillstand. Wann immer ich anfange daran zu arbeiten, werde ich sofort von zwei begeisterten Katzen umzingelt. Wo ist das Spiel? Das ist hin und wieder ganz schön, aber es stört das Weiterkommen doch sehr... 

6. We drank numerous simple teas with milk, throughout the day. 

Das ganzen Tag über tranken wir viele Tees mit Milch. 

7. With the leftover lentils, other vegetables and chicken I made a meat pie (with heart) for dinner. 

Aus den übriggebliebenen Linsen vom Mittag, weiterem Gemüse und Hühnchen machte ich einen Auflauf im Teigmantel (mit Herz) zum Abend. 

This was my calm Sunday. I’m wishing you a nice, peaceful week, without too much snow. 

Das war ein sehr ruhiger Sonntag. Ich wünsche euch eine schöne, ebenfalls ruhige Woche (wenn erwünscht).... ohne zuviel Wetterunbill. 

Friday Polyvore

This week’s set is showcasing horse print clothing and accessories.

Seeing a recent increase in horse prints, I thought there might be a wide variety available, but I found most products in the $30 till $100 range. So this is a rather inexpensive (and probably really girlie) trend, but I liked the combination of the mustard yellow sweater with the black horse print in the ‘Low’ Set so much, that I got inspired to make this post.

In dieser Woche zeige ich Sets mit Pferdemuster Aufdrucken.
Seit ich vor kurzem eine stete Zunahme an Pferdemotiven in Kleidung und Accessoires feststellte, dachte ich, daß es dazu genügend große Variationen in Preis und Leistung - ausreichend für high und low sets - geben könnte. Aber ich fand die meisten Produkte nur im $30 bis $100 Bereich angesiedelt. Insofern handelt es sich um einen preiswerten (und wohl sehr mädchenhaften Trend). Ich mochte am Liebsten den senfgelben Pullover mit schwarzem Pferdemuster im ‚Low’ set, welcher mich zu diesem Thema inspirierte.

A warm winter day / Ein warmer Wintertag

Today was one of these winter days, which I like the most: Frozen in the morning, but sunny, bright and considerably warm during the day. I dread the numerous grey clouded, dark days of the season.

And whenever there is such a sunny day, I want to go down to the lake ...

My Marimekko Unikko inspired dress was as bright as the day and the heels are perfectly balanced for walks on rocks and still high enough to walk over muddy ground without getting wet, dirty shoes.

While walking down, I finally picked up a serving tray, which I discovered a while ago. It was half buried under a tree and I wonder how long it was in the soil. I washed it in Lake Champlain waters… before making my pictures and heading back home.

Heute war einer dieser Wintertage, die ich am Liebsten mag: alles war gefroren am Morgen, doch die Sonne kam heraus und es wurde noch (relativ) warm am Tage. Ich kann die vielen grauen, dunklen Wolkentage gar nicht mehr leiden.
Und wann immer die Sonne scheint, möchte ich sofort nach draußen um am See spazieren zu gehen ... Diesmal hatte ich Glück, denn die Sonne schien noch, als ich den See ereichte :)

Mein Marimekko Unikko inspiriertes Kleid war genauso leuchtend wie der Tag und die Stiefeletten waren perfekt ausbalanziert für Felsenkletterei und doch hoch genug um damit durch Modderwiesen zu stapfen ohne dreckig zu werden.
Als ich die Straße zum See erreichte, nahm ich auch endlich ein Tablett mit, das ich bereits vor einiger Zeit neben einer Baumwurzel entdeckt hatte. Ich frage mich, wie lange es schon in der Erde liegt. Das Tablett bekam seine erste Waschung mit Seewasser, bevor ich die Fotos machte und dann ging es wieder zurück nach Hause... der warme Tee wartet :) 

Seven Sunday-Things / Sieben-Sachen Sonntag

Following the idea of “Frau Liebe” (a german “handmade” blog) I want to show on every Sunday (or sometimes on a Monday), seven things which I used - with my hands - during the day. 

Nach einer Idee von "Frau Liebe", gibt es an dieser Stelle immer wieder Sonntags (oder auch erst am Montag) Bilder von sieben Sachen, für die ich heute meine Hände gebraucht habe. 

Although this Sunday was dominated by the preparations (without pictures) for the super bowl party in the evening, I worked on many other projects as well :) 

Obwohl dieser Sonntag von den Vorbereitungen (ohne Bilder) für die Super Bowl Party am Abend dominiert wurde, arbeitete ich auch an vielen anderen Projekten :) 

1. Do you remember the rice flakes brunch my husband made last Sunday? He wrote down the recipe for me and so I tried it out by myself: The peanuts got a bit black, but otherwise it was edible. 

Erinnert ihr euch an das Reisflocken Gericht, das mein Mann am vorherigen Sonntag gemacht hatte? Er hat mir das Rezept aufgeschrieben und so versuchte ich mich an diesem Sonntag Morgen ebenfalls daran. Die Erdnüsse verbrannten mir zwar, aber ansonsten war das Ergebnis eßbar. 

2. Removing staples from a chair. 

Ich entfernte hartnäckige Draht-Klammern aus einem Stuhl. 

3. Watching TV with earphones and having a yawing cat on my arm. 

Schaute Fernsehen mit Kopfhörern und hatte dabei eine gähnende Katze auf dem Arm. 

4. Another project… It’s going to be white wooden fringes on a table.  Go figure ;)

Ein anderes neues Projekt… Das werden hölzernen, weiße ‚Fransen’ an einem Tisch. 

5. The bottom of the house project is finished, although my cats were ‘helping’. 

Der Boden des Hausprojekts ist fertig geworden, obwohl meine Katzen mit mir um jeden Faden erbittert kämpften. 

6. While making a walk towards the Intervale, we found a measuring rod from 1965. 

Während eines kleinen Spaziergangs fanden wir einen Maßstab mit Werbung aus dem Jahre 1965. 

7. Watching Super Bowl at a friends place and having a lot of awesome food, including these cupcakes and Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber Lager beer. 

Und dann sahen wir uns den Super Bowl bei Freunden an...es gab dabei viel zu viel tolles Essen u.a. diese Cupcakes und Flying Dog Bier. 

I’m wishing everyone a great new, sunny and warm week ahead.

Friday Polyvore

I thought I should make a new attempt in establishing a polyvore routine… let’s start with heart prints (as Valentines Day is coming…) in a low (under $ 50) and high (above $ 500) polyvore set. 

Ich dachte, ich sollte meine Routine wieder aufnehmen und jeden Freitag ein polyvore set zu einem Thema veröffentlichen, jeweils in der billigeren (unter 50 $) und teureren (über 500 $) Version. Anläßlich des Valentinstags zeige ich heute alles mit Herz :)

A new dress / Ein neues Kleid

It was raining and I was truly the only one at this part of the water front... not even any jogger was in sight. However I didn’t feel like spending too much time there as well, so that I left after making just a few pictures.

I found this dress at Goodwill and wanted to wear it immediately (actually the pictures were made before I even washed it after buying)… I guess, that I will change the buttons on top of the dress (they are blue and therefore hardly visible) and I’m looking forward for summer to wear the dress without all the winter layers :)

Es regnete und ich war die einzige in diesem Teil des Seeufers... man konnte nicht einmal Jogger irgendwo sehen. Jedenfalls hatte ich auch kein Interesse daran zu lange zu bleiben, so daß ich nur ein paar flüchtige Bilder machte und schnell wieder ins Trockene entschwand.

Ich habe das Kleid bei Goodwill gefunden und wollte es sofort anziehen (die Bilder entstanden sogar, bevor ich das Kleid nach dem Kaufen gewaschen hatte - in Secondhand Läden eigentlich ein Muss). Ich denke, daß ich die blauen Knöpfe am Kragen des Kleides gegen weiß-blaue austauschen werde und ich freue mich schon auf den Sommer, um das Kleid mit drei Lagen weniger Kleidung tragen zu können :) 

Fridge Magnet / Kühlschrankmagnet

I’m trying to work myself through the ‘work in progress’ - folder at Facebook and found the Fridge Magnet project (again). 

Once this was probably a product sample in a construction shop, then it landed in the Re-store, where I picked it up and painted the washed out diamond pattern on one side. Then I chose simple dress drawings and painted them on the square, finishing it with a clear coating and adding a magnet foil at the end. Magnet done :)

Ich versuche mich gerade durch meinen alten ‘work in progress’- Ordner zu wühlen und (wieder-) entdeckte das Küchenmagnet-Projekt. 

Einst war das quadratische Stück Kunststoff-Mix ein Produktmuster in einem Baumarkt. Dann landete es im Re-Store, wo ich es kaufte und zu Hause mit einem ausgewaschenem Diagonal-Muster bemalte. Dann suchte ich mir einfache Kleidermuster heraus und malte sie auf den Magnet mit einem 18/0 Pinsel. Darauf kam Klarlack und auf die Rückseite klebte ich Magnetfolie und fertig war der Magnet :)
