One week in sustainable outfits / Eine Woche in “nachhaltigen” Outfits

Instead of making one elaborate outfit post for the week, I decided to make a couple of rather simple pictures every day, mostly just in front of the house. It wasn’t that easy as it looks, since all the time people were passing by and it does look awkward making pictures just with the self timer.

However the idea of the week was to wear mostly second hand or vintage pieces, which wasn’t such a big challenge since most of my clothes are from thrift stores anyways.

Reusing second hand clothing means that less new clothes are in the need to get produced (saving resources) as well as reducing the trash; both are good for the environment. Additionally most thrift stores are supporting a wide range of social causes with their earned money.

Anstatt meinem üblichen, etwas aufwändigeren Outfit Post pro Woche entschied ich mich in der letzten Woche dafür jeden Tag nur ein paar Bilder zu machen... zumeist direkt vor der Haustür. Das klang in der Theorie einfacher als in der Praxis, denn es sieht seltsam aus, wenn man nur mit dem Selbstauslöser Bilder von sich macht und unsere Straße ist recht belebt.

Die Idee der Woche war, zumeist Kleidung zu tragen, die entweder Second Hand bzw. Vintage ist. Das war keine große Herausforderung, da meine Kleidung ohnehin zumeist aus den Second Hand Läden stammt. Wenn man gebrauchte Kleidung weiterbenutzt, dann schont man auf zwei Arten die Umwelt, zum einen muß weniger Kleidung neu produziert werden, was Ressourcen spart, zum anderen entsteht weniger Müll. Zudem spenden die meisten nicht kommerziellen Second Hand Läden ihren Gewinn einer Vielzahl sozialer Zwecke.

Monday / Montag

My first dress I ever bought from “Plato’sCloset” and I’m so in love with the hex design, which looks like a cross between traditional Slavic and Oaxaca patterns and hey, it has a bird on it! :)

Das ist das erste Kleid, das ich je bei „Plato’sCloset“ gekauft habe und ich habe mich Hals über Kopf in das Design verliebt. Es sieht nach einer wilden Mischung zwischen slawischem und mexikanischen Muster aus und ist einfach schön bunt. :)

People told me, I would look like going for a Scottish folk dance with the Tartan overload of that day. The tutorial for my tartan flower crown will follow soon.

Einige Leute sagten mir, ich sah aus als wenn ich zum schottischen Volkstanz gehen würde, mit der Menge an Karomustern, die ich trug. Die Anleitung für meinen Karoblumenkranz werde ich noch in dieser Woche posten.

Wednesday / Mittwoch

It was a change of place - at the waterfront and of style... a vintage maxi skirt.

Since I had an aching left foot, I was even forced to wear shoes without any kind of heels and settled for these Canadian made combat boots, which was matching, since the skirt is also from Toronto, ON.

An dem Tag machte ich meine Bilder zur Abwechslung am Seeufer und trug auch eine andere Rocklänge als sonst… ein wadenlanger, vintage Rock. Da mir mein linker Fuß wehtat, musste ich auch auf jedwede Absätze verzichten und ‚vernünftige’ Schuhe tragen. Da das Wetter noch kein leichtes Schuhwerk erlaubt, trug ich stattdessen diese kanadischen Stiefel... was sehr gut zu meinem Rock passte, denn der stammt aus Toronto.

The next snowstorm forced me to stay home all day long, because the snow was simply to wet to invite for a walk in this slushy winter wonderland.

Der nächste Wintersturm brachte mich dazu, den Tag zu Hause zu verbringen, denn der Schnee war so matschig, daß es einfach keine Freude war darin spazieren zu gehen.

I chose a seriously black outfit for the last day of the working week. As a first trial, I made this wild necklace from an old T-Shirt. A nicer less wild version will hopefully follow soon, with a Tutorial :)

Ich wählte ein wirklich schwarzes Outfit für den letzten Tag der Arbeitswoche. Als ersten Versuch habe ich diese wilde Halskette aus einem alten T-Shirt geschnitten und geflochten. Eine schönere, weniger wilde Version wird hier hoffentlich bald als Anleitung erscheinen :)

It was the only day that I was wearing jeans and it was sunny :) My husband made the pictures.

Since most of my outfits were black and dark, my next challenge might be a summer color week. I’m waiting for slightly warmer temperatures :)

Da die meisten hier vorgestellten Varianten schwarz waren, werde ich beim nächsten Mal versuchen nur helle Sommerfarben zu tragen. Ich warte auf etwas wärmere Temperaturen und nähe an den Kleidern :) 

Seven Sunday-Things / Sieben-Sachen Sonntag

Following the idea of “Frau Liebe” (a german “handmade” blog) I want to show on every Sunday (or sometimes on a Monday), seven things which I used - with my hands - during the day. 

In order to post my seven Sunday things a bit earlier than usual, I just made pictures until lunch time :)

Nach einer Idee von "Frau Liebe", gibt es an dieser Stelle immer wieder Sonntags (oder auch erst am Montag) Bilder von sieben Sachen, für die ich heute meine Hände gebraucht habe. 
Um meine sieben Sonntagssachen ein wenig früher als sonst zu posten, habe ich diesmal nur Bilder bis zum Mittag gemacht :) 

1. A simple breakfast as the husband had to go and help with a friend’s relocation. 
Ein einfaches Frühstück, da mein Mann sofort los musste um einem Freund beim Umzug zu helfen. 

 2. Playing with the big cat. Mit dem Kater spielen. 

3. Removing fresh snow. Frischgefallenen Schnee wegschieben. 

 4. I made a kitty cut-out from a leather scrap. The smaller cat likes it. 
 Ich habe einen Katzenkopf aus einem Lederrest ausgeschnitten. Die kleine Katze mag es. 

5. Real Banana chips… not sweet. 
Echte Banana Chips … garantiert scharf und nicht süß. 

6. Placing a doily in the bowl on the coffee table. Putting painted stones in the shells. 
Kleine Umgestaltung der Schale auf dem Couchtisch: Ich habe ein Spitzendeckchen in die Schale gelegt und bemalte Steine in die Muscheln. 

7. Lunch of the “Ready in 5 Minutes” version - eggs with tomatoes and yoghurt. 
Mittagessen der “Fertig in 5 Minuten” Variante - Eier mit Tomaten und Joghurt. 

Next week my house project will make a comeback, have a good week ahead. 

In der nächsten Woche wird mein Hausprojekt ein Comeback starten…. ich wünsche euch eine gute neue Woche... hoffentlich ohne schlechte Nachrichten :) 

A life lived / Ein Leben, gelebt.

Since I came to know, that my granny died on the last weekend, I became quite sentimental and started watching all the available old pictures. 

Then I stumbled upon pictures, which I made in 2010, while being on a six weeks long holiday in Germany. I made random pictures of items in her house… as if I knew that I would never see anything of these again.

She moved to an old age home last year and all these old glasses, bicycles, table wine! were gone for good.
Good bye ‘Oma’ - and my most faithful Blog reader - I will dearly miss you.

Seit ich erfahren habe, daß meine Großmutter am letzten Wochenende verstarb, wurde ich recht sentimental und sah mir alle alten Bilder an, die ich hier finden konnte. 

Dabei fielen mir Bilder in die Hände, die ich 2010 während meines letzten Heimaturlaubs gemacht hatte. Ich fotografierte was immer mir bemerkenswert erschien, als wenn ich wusste, daß ich wohl kaum etwas davon jemals wiedersehen würde. 

Sie zog im letzten Jahr in eine Altersheim an der Promenade um und all diese alten Einweck-Gläser, Fahrräder, Kinderspielzeug, Tafelwein! verschwanden für immer. 
Auf Wiedersehen Oma - und meine treueste Blog Leserin - ich werde dich sehr vermissen. 

Seven Sunday-Things / Sieben-Sachen Sonntag

Nach einer Idee von "Frau Liebe", gibt es an dieser Stelle immer wieder Sonntags (oder auch erst am Montag) Bilder von sieben Sachen, für die ich heute meine Hände gebraucht habe. 

Since my husband left on the early morning for a one week conference in Boston, my day didn’t contain any awesome Indian dishes, it was more about scrambled eggs and cereals. 

And since we had a house inspection scheduled for early Monday morning I had to clean our home to look at least “normal” means without any cat hairs in sight… so I vacuum cleaned the house, cleaned the bathroom, the kitchen, the oven… the toaster, it slightly got out of control, when I started repainting some parts. However the inspection went well and now I have time to finally write about my Sunday … but with the box of tissue paper on the desk. I don’t have a cold I hope, but every year in early spring I get hay fever for a week or two. This is the time when the hazel is in flowers… the only plants I’m allergic to… 

 .

Da mein Mann am frühen Sonntag Morgen zu einer Konferenz nach Boston aufbrach, gab es an diesem Sonntag keinerlei tolle indischen Gerichte zu bestaunen und zu essen… es war eher so ein Rühreier und Müsli Tag. 

Und da für Montag Morgen eine Hausinspektion geplant war, war ich einen großen Rest des Tages damit beschäftigt sauber zu machen und aufzuräumen.. Ziel war eine weitesgehend Katzenhaar-freie Wohnung. Also staubsaugte ich alles gründlich, reinigte das Bad, die Küche, den Backofen ... den Toaster... es geriet leicht außer Kontrolle, als ich anfing kleinere Schadstellen zu übermalen. Die Hausinspektion verlief dafür aber auch reibungslos und nun habe ich endlich Zeit über meinen Sonntag zu schreiben .... mit den Taschentüchern griffbereit neben mir. Ich habe jedoch keine neue Erkältung, sondern Heuschnupfen. Einmal im Jahr - im frühesten Frühjahr - befällt mich das, wenn für ein bis zwei Wochen die Haselsträucher blühen. 

1. Early morning project: Since I found a Popeye Odysseus Cartoon in the Newspaper, I knew, that I wanted to do something with it… therefore I glued it on a piece of wood and adding a clear coating on top, once the glue was dried out. Now, Popysseus will stay with us :) 

Projekt am frühen Morgen: Seit ich den Popeye Odysseus Comic in der Zeitung gefunden hatte, wusste ich, daß dieser mir irgendwie erhalten bleiben sollte. Also klebte ich die Bilder auf ein Stück Holz ... und überzog alles mit Klarlack, nachdem der Kleber getrocknet war. Popysseus bleibt bei uns :) 

1a. I did the same with the salt girl from the empty salt box … glued her on one of our door stoppers :) 

Das Gleiche passierte mit dem Salzmädchen-Bild von der leeren Salzbüchse… ich klebte sie auf einen unserer Türstopper. 

2. Cleaning the dishes. / Geschirr abwaschen. 

3. Filling spices from their cardboard homes in empty glass jars… sticking the old labels on the glass. Hopefully I will make my own nicer labels sooner :) 

Ich habe Gewürze in leeren Gläser gefüllt ... und die alten Etiketten ausgeschnitten und aufgeklebt. Irgendwann mache ich mir hoffentlich schönere Etiketten :) 

4. Cleaning the Toaster. / Den Toaster gereinigt. 

 5. Throwing mini pieces of snow to the cat… he likes to catch them. Wondering if this will be the last snow of the season. 

Kleine Schneebälle zum Kater geworfen… er fängt sie auf. Ich habe mich gewundert, ob das nun schon der letzte Schnee der Saison war. 

6. Ice is still beautiful. / Eis im Gegenlicht ist immer noch schön. 

7. Yoghurt juice for dinner? Sure, why not… :) / Ein Joghurtdrink zum Abendbrot… spricht da irgendwas dagegen? 

7a. Watching the Oscars till I fall as sleep… somehow I simply don’t think that Billy Crystal is that funny. 

Oscar gucken bis zum Einschlafen … irgendwie fand ich Billy Crystal nicht sonderlich lustig. 

 Have a wonderful pre-spring week ahead… Ich wünsche allen eine wunderschöne Vorfrühlingswoche …

I continued my polyvore sets with stripes: But these ones are slightly different. Chevron patterned fabrics are abstract, tribal, a classic and … in trend :) 

Auch in dieser Woche gibt es hier gestreifte Sets zu sehen: Doch diese sind ein wenig anders. Das Chevron Muster (Zickzack: in V-Form bzw. umgedrehter V-Form) ist höchst abstrakt, alt, klassisch und ... im Trend :)

It wasn’t planned to make outfit pictures while being on our Manhattan Trip last year. But with all the pictures which we made, it kind of naturally happened.
Since I just started posting the pictures in my Bread Story blog - now, a couple of the outfit shots are landing here as well :)

Under the Queensboro Bridge / Unter der Queensboro Brücke 

On this first full day in NYC, we started from Roosevelt Island to see the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, Central Park and did a little bit of shopping at Forever 21 on 5th Avenue.

I will have to find a way to stop crossing my arms or hands on nearly each and every picture. / Ich werde wohl einen Weg finden müssen, wie ich nicht auf jedem Bild immer die Arme oder Hände verschränke.

Nearly 3000 year old jewellery and I’m in love with the pigeon earrings :) / Fast 3000 Jahre alter Schmuck und die Tauben Ohrringe sind immer noch toll :) 

Wir hatten bei unserem Manhattan Ausflug vom letzten Jahr keine Outfit Fotos geplant. Sie passierten jedoch automatisch bei der Bildermenge, die sich letztlich ansammelte. Vor kurzem habe ich endlich angefangen die Bilder in meinem Bread Story Blog zu zeigen ... und so bekommt dieser Blog nunmehr auch seine Auswahl an NYC Bildern „verpasst“ ;)

An diesem ersten kompletten Tag in New York starteten wir von Roosevelt Island um uns das riesige Metropolitan Museum of Arts und den Central Park anzusehen. Beides wäre je einen Tagesausflug alleine wert gewesen, so daß wir ziemlich k.o. am Ende des Tages waren :)
