DIY: Faux marble detail / Falscher Marmor

I found this small side table on curb, when we moved to Frankfurt in 2015.
The table plate was broken and I had no tools or much knowledge how to repair it. So, I got thin plywood sheets from the home improvement store and cut the wood with a knife and a small saw in a rough hexagon shape. I sanded down the edges, glued and stapled two hexagon sheets together and glued it in place … the rest was basically held in place by the color ^^

Initially I wanted the table to be black, but disliked it while painting, so that I switched to barn red, which was fitting in with other deep red accents that I had at home.
When we moved to Würselen, the color didn’t fit anymore therefore I decided to paint it ocean blue, which was alright, but something was missing. So I attempted to paint the table plate and surrounding area a faux marble in white and grey. It looks good from afar and very much painted as one gets closer, but I checked out marble contact paper and some of it looks worse than my faux painting :)

I have the feeling that I might tire of the look after a while, but currently I’m happy with how it turned out.

Felt coaster / Filz Untersetzer

After two weeks of laptop issues, I’m finally (and hopefully for good) connected again.
Since I had a lot of free time without much money to spend during these weeks, I worked with what I had at home … which were scraps of crafting felt and a bit of cardboard (as the filling) from the recycling box to make coasters.

In former times I worked extensively with felt, I made literally hundreds of Christmas ornaments and sold them, but after a while I got bored of the material.
It took me a couple of years, but slowly felt started creeping into my work again, I used it for brooches and to decorate pillows, since it’s such an easy material to use. Eventually I’m dreaming of working with wet and needle felting as well, but this is something for the far away future.

The color combination of my coasters isn’t exactly intentional, it was really just what I had at home in larger pieces, but I actually like it.
The design is way more simplistic and geometric than what I would have done earlier and of course I ‘had’ to make Hexagons again :)
