Coasters / Untersetzer

I made these coasters (and basket) when we were still living in Vermont. I used simple nylon rope from the Home Depot, a little bit of colourful wool and a thick yarn needle. I know that the same result can also be reached with a crochet needle, but I like sewing - so the blanket stitch worked well for me.
Recently I saw a bundle of natural cotton rope at the home improvement store and it got me thinking again of what I could do with it … I could f.e. dye them or just partially dye the strings, use a less fraying yarn than wool, maybe crochet thread and make baskets and coasters again or even use them to cover my flower pots and make them look a bit more interesting or perhaps uniform :)

Felt coaster / Filz Untersetzer

After two weeks of laptop issues, I’m finally (and hopefully for good) connected again.
Since I had a lot of free time without much money to spend during these weeks, I worked with what I had at home … which were scraps of crafting felt and a bit of cardboard (as the filling) from the recycling box to make coasters.

In former times I worked extensively with felt, I made literally hundreds of Christmas ornaments and sold them, but after a while I got bored of the material.
It took me a couple of years, but slowly felt started creeping into my work again, I used it for brooches and to decorate pillows, since it’s such an easy material to use. Eventually I’m dreaming of working with wet and needle felting as well, but this is something for the far away future.

The color combination of my coasters isn’t exactly intentional, it was really just what I had at home in larger pieces, but I actually like it.
The design is way more simplistic and geometric than what I would have done earlier and of course I ‘had’ to make Hexagons again :)
