3rd Wedding Anniversary / Dritter Hochzeitstag

It’s strange to think about our wedding day as such a long time gone, that it is really already three years ago, that we had a three days marriage extravaganza, with my three dresses and how we sat in front of the fire, heard what the priest was mumbling in these hottest two hours of our life …

Everything began with the day before the wedding, where curcuma was put on Anand and me (while I had a migraine attack, so don’t be shocked by my lifeless face), followed by four hours Mehendi, henna which got painting on my hands, arms and feet.

Aren't these great payals? / Sind das nicht tolle Fußkettchen?

Then the first dress of the wedding day for the religious ceremony, the fire in this small room… like the longest sauna stay I can imagine … (well, and this dress got completely ruined from the sweat.)
Afterwards I had to run to the beauty parlor and still we came too late to our reception.

There I was wearing this beautiful red saree, had to make all the smiling pictures with each of the 260 guests, Indian weddings seem to require and hated to bend down in high heels (!) to touch the feet of numerous guests (a sign of respect).

After all guests left, we (traditionally) shared some food, returned home and slept (I shared the bed with Anand’s sister and nephew…)

The next day was followed by rituals, some of them fun most odd… the third wedding dress and a visit at a temple, which was the only peaceful time of our marriage … I know that these weddings are not for fun, but also a test for the young couple in stability, but still I felt a bit deceived by the fun western marriages bring to the married couple. The romantic poses, the food, the dance and the smile when you memorize your day… because even after these years I can just think of: Thank god it’s over… One month later, the marriage certificate was a struggle to get, but didn’t had any romantic value either and we put on our rings while visiting family friends.

Our temporay outdoor kitchen and dinning room on the roof top (for the time of the marriage) / Unsere Dachküche- und Eßzimmer (für die Zeit der Hochzeit)

After our stay in India, my parents organized a post-wedding treat for us at my home island: A super-relaxed BBQ-Style get-together with grandparents, aunts, uncles and Anand’s friends from Berlin. We had amazing food, made a walk to the beach and because we couldn’t find any cabins to rent during the summer season, all young people slept in tents in a small camp at the end of the garden …

The only thing I missed and still miss is wearing a white - either absolutely simple or vintage - wedding dress. I could have worn one at my parent’s party, but I wanted to have this fest as less formal as possible, so that skirt and t-shirt felt perfect for the day…
And so I’m still looking into the windows of wedding shops, seeing the changing displays with such huge eyes and feeling sad by the very idea, that I m never going to wear a white wedding dress at all …
Ha haha, I already had three dresses on my wedding and still I'm crying for the fourth one, girls are crazy... :D

  4. Correction: My husband reminded me, that I was sharing the bed with his sister and nephew on the day before the marriage. In the marriage night his sister and nephew were sleeping on mattresses on the floor of the bedroom and not on the bed itself. I'm sorry, I mixed up the days.

  5. Note: Insist on a hotel room far away from the wedding party :D
